Beginners Obedience

Our Winter 2019 session will begin the week of January 7, 2019.

Winter 2019 Beginners Graduation will be held on Friday, March 16, 2019.

We teach and encourage positive training methods using treats, toys, and verbal praise as rewards.  All instructors are volunteers and have earned at least one AKC Obedience Title with their dog.  All instructors complete a hands-on apprenticeship program and participate in continuing education.

Junior Handlers

Handlers are between the ages of eight (8) and thirteen (13).
Dog must be six (6) months or older.
No previous training required.
10-week session, one hour per week.

The goal of this class is to teach the Junior Handler and dog to work together. A basic beginners class for the dog (with an adult handler) is highly recommended but not required. Parents should consider the size, age, and maturity of the child and dog when enrolling in this class.

Session begins with a one-hour orientation (without dogs). You will need a properly fitted collar and a six-foot leash; both are available for purchase the first week of classes with the dog for proper fitting or throughout the session. Homework is assigned each week based on the instruction manual received at orientation. You will be evaluated on the 10th week. All dogs will graduate, receive a certificate, and are invited to attend our graduation party.

After successfully passing this course, you may continue training in a Novice I class.

You may also apply for Associate Membership after successfully completing a Beginners obedience or higher class.
