Cinder Glo Celene

“Celene Tyson”

Female Shetland Sheepdog born April 15, 1998 owned and handled by Jane Tyson

Celene was a remarkable dog. In January of 2003, she began her training at TDTC in beginning obedience, a year after I got her at the age of 3 1/2 years. I never intended to enter Celene in trials – we were only planning to take one obedience class. However, Celene had great natural attention and was at or near the top of all her classes, so we gave competing a try. She quickly earned her CD’s in both AKC and UKC obedience, which was followed by enrollment in agility classes at the age of 5. Celene loved agility and also very quickly earned her agility titles. She was in the top 50 dogs in the US in UKC AGI for the year 2004. Celene was to have competed at the UKC Invitational All-Stars Premier just 2 months after her unexpected and untimely death at age 7. Celene was a perfectionist – she had over a 50% percentage of perfect scores in UKC and AKC agility. I was so proud of her–she was just wonderful. In agility, Celene loved to jump most of all; she wasn’t very fast, but she could make course time and she rarely made mistakes. I didn’t realize until the first trials that Cheri and I did after Celene was gone how much self-confidence she had given me.

Despite her accomplishments, Celene was first and foremost an absolutely gorgeous dog who was a great friend. She was very elegant (her nickname was Queen Celene), but she did some of the funniest things, and, despite her innocent appearance, she was also mischievous. A lot was wrapped up in that 18-pound package. I could not have asked for a better dog. Celene was loved and is sadly missed, not only by me, but by Celene’s littermate, Cheri, family members and friends. Many people in the dog community were so kind and supportive to me when I lost Celene. I will always be grateful to you all.

I still miss Celene. I still reminisce about her, especially at trials. I will never forget the dog that first lead me to TDTC–so much joy has been added to my life because of her. If it hadn’t been for Celene, I would probably never have ended up training and trialing and doing agility. I wouldn’t have met so many wonderful people. And I certainly wouldn’t have Cheri!

It was quite an honor when Celene’s photo was chosen to be on the cover of the March 2006 issue of UKC’s Bloodlines magazine. I took the picture of Celene in our backyard. It is my favorite photo of Celene, because I think that it really captures her “queenly” personality.
